Transit Lounge. From Aug 14th through 16th, 2009.
Recently proposed budget cuts in Miami-Dade county have jeopardized the amount of funding available to cultural arts programs. Transit Lounge, a live music venue in downtown Miami, will be hosting a three-day festival between August 14th through 16th to benefit The Innovation Foundation a non-profit dedicated to music education. The concert will also pay tribute to the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, the legendary music festival held between August 15th-18th, 1969 in Bethel, NY.
“Once we realized the implications of the current situation, we have stepped up our efforts in support of music education.” said Will Edwards, owner of Transit Lounge. “Music suffers unless the proper tools are available to foster creativity.”
The concert will feature Miami’s best local acts such as Soniko, Locos Por Juana and Lanzallamas among others, covering music from Woodstock’s most famous performances. Artist tributes will take place in chronological order according to the original performance schedule. The festival will also showcase arts and craft fair.
“Paying tribute to Woodstock is a wonderful concept.” said Fabi Patina, founder of Lanzallamas Music. “Woodstock was truly revolutionary in the fact that it combined musicians from all walks of life. Hearing unique new music is a cornerstone of inspiration – personally and musically.”
