Miami Beach Cinematheque. August 27th, 2010. 8:00 p.m.
The Miami Beach Cinematheque presents the French film Wild Grass, directed by Alain Resnais and starring André Dussolier, Sabene Azéma and Mathieu Amalric, on August 22nd at 8:00 p.m. at the Raleigh Hotel Ballroom.
A wallet lost and found opens the door – slightly – to Georges and Marguerite’s romantic adventure. After examining the ID of its owner, it is not a simple matter for Georges to turn in to the police the red wallet he has found. Nor can Marguerite retrieve her wallet without being piqued with curiosity about the person who found it. As George and Marguerite navigate the social protocols of giving and acknowledging thanks, turbulence enters their everyday lives.
One of the acknowledged masters of cinema has returned in glorious form with a vibrant, life-affirming film that certainly provides its share of joyous surprises. Alain Resnais has made some of the essential works in the history of the medium. As Wild Grass shows, Resnais’s talent still flames bright. (In French with English subtitles.) Winner: Life Achievement Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Opening Night New York Film Festival.
