Miami Beach Cinematheque. March 23rd and 24th, 2005The Miami Beach Cinematheque is presenting two days of Theatre Inspired by Cinema…Twain in the 21st Century. Far beyond Tom Sawyer and Huckelberry Finn, this one-man show brings Mark Twain into modern day times, allowing his unique style and voice an opportunity to comment on contemporary issues. In an edgy and dramatically hilarious fashion, his clever wit and sometimes pompous criticism shines. Still wearing his iconic white suit and puffing his obligatory cigar, we find ourselves waiting with him in his private study for one night on earth, as he awaits the decision whether or not God will let a humorist into heaven. He marvels at modern day technology, and in typical Twain style he tackles, politics, religion and sensationalism, and state of Hollywood cinema today. Twain in the 21st Century is a blend of political satire, comedy and drama brought to life on stage, featuring Tennessee Webb as Mark Twain. “If every American had seen Mark Twain “unplugged”, before elections day, America would be in a different place today.
