Tigertail continues its 30th Anniversary Season with Ölelés, by the award-winning dancers from Barcelona, Spain, at the Colony Theatre.
Gripping, physically intense and genuinely lyrical, this award-winning extended evening-length duet Ölelés for two men marks the first collaboration between acclaimed Catalán choreographers and performers Jordi Cortés and Damián Muñoz – two of Spain’s most innovative young dance artists. Based on writer Sándor Márai’s 1942 masterpiece Embers, this high-velocity, nearly violent piece dramatizes the bitter reunion of two long-estranged friends, who look back to the fateful betrayal that shattered their bond 40 years earlier. Ölelés has received the Ciudad de Barcelona Award and the Premio de la Feria Internacional de Huesca.
Cortés has performed with DV8 Physical Theatre in London, among others and Muñoz who formed his own company in 1995 and is dubbed the Almodóvar of dance in Spain. This simmering physical theatre work is guaranteed to draw the audience through an intense and furious male bonding.
This concert is presented by Centro Cultural de España (CCE) and Tigertail. “This is another stellar dance company in the line of other greats we have presented – Quasar from Brazil, Susan Marshall, Marie Chouinard, Tere O’Connor and now Alta Realitat from Spain, ” said Tigertail Executive Director Mary Luft.
