Downtown Fort Lauderdale. February 2, 2013, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.
In 1995 four visual artists grouped their studios just north of Broward Blvd on NE Third Avenue. They had the vision of luring other artists to form a visual arts district in Fort Lauderdale. Since then seven other creative individuals have joined in buying or leasing studio space in the area currently known as the Third Avenue Art District. In the professional world, these artists are national and international award winning talents visible in museum, public and private collections.
Artists in the district include:
Francie Bishop Good showing a new series of photographs. This year an exhibit of fine art photography by children will be in her front gallery space. The participating children are from the program, Cameras For Kids Foundation, spearheaded by founder, Betsey Chesler. Tin Ly will add to his large, painterly sculptures, a new series of drawings on bamboo sheaths.
Printmaker Rosanna Saccoccio’s delicate prints have expanded into an ongoing series of abstract acrylic paintings that will be on view. Her guest photographer Pat Moss will show a new series of work for the event. Madeline Denaro will display her vibrant abstract paintings from her theme, Inner Circles/Outer Worlds. Mary Lou Siefker will show her colorful acrylic paintings along with her Image Series and Wilma Bulkin Siegel will display paintings from her latest series, “Returning Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Margi Glavovic Nothard will be showing Unbuilt/Unspoken_Fort Lauderdale, an exhibit of drawings from Glavovic Studio for new paradigms for the City.
Michel Pellus will show his large size realistic oil on canvas paintings coined “Macro Realism”
Janet Gold will be featuring her newest collection of unique three-dimensional vintage birdcages while Tobey Archer will exhibit abstract landscape paintings, public art, and light sculptures. Henning Haupt will display gestural drawings and large colorful oil paintings, which generate intimate visual spaces.
Participating once again will be the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale-Nova Southeastern University, extending their hours until 9:00 p.m. for this special event. Exhibitions include: Foto Fort Lauderdale (Diane Arbus, Elliot Erwitt, Vic Muniz), Return to the Ashcan and Warhol Cars.
Also featured in this year’s Artwalk is an exhibition presented by Girls’ Club, a non-profit alternative space exhibiting contemporary art by women. The current exhibit, Following The Line, curated by Carol Jazaar is a selection of drawings, mostly from the collection of Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz.
Free trolleys will be available to escort visitors from one location to another throughout the night. This is a special chance to meet the artists or even start an art collection. It is an opportunity to engage in the creative experience of the artist’s studio setting and to purchase professional artwork. This experience is only offered to the public once each year.
