The New Presbyterian Church presents Concert Organist, Samuel Metzger featuring Carrie Quarquesso, Coloratura Sopranoon on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. The concert will be performed at Pompano Beach High School in Pompano Beach. The program will include favorite organ favorites, including the Alexandre Guilmant Sonata No.1; special guest Coloratura Soprano, Carrie Quarquesso in a performance of Bach’s Cantata No. 51, as well as other sacred repertoire. Tickets are not required. Admission is free and an offering will be taken.
Samuel Metzger began undergraduate studies in 1990 at Arizona State University with Robert Clark. There he studied on a Regents Scholarship and at graduation was named “Most Outstanding Undergraduate in Performance.” In 1995 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and began studies with Jon Laukvik in Stuttgart, Germany. While in Germany he was organist at the Lutherkirche in Stuttgart-Feuerbach as well as accompanist for the Ludwigsburg Cathedral choir. Upon graduation, he studied with Marie-Claire Alain in St. Germain-en-Laye, France. Mr. Metzger was the Senior Organist at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale from 2003 – 2009. He presently is the Senior Organist at the New Presbyterian Church, and is also heard regularly in concert around the country.
Carrie Quarquesso (coloratura soprano) has studied music for ten years, studying under many accomplished musicians from the Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera such as Sergio Puig, Barbara Copanos, Romeo DeMarco, Samuel Metzger, Dr. Robert Sharon, Bette Hankin, and Marilyn Mims, and Ah Young Hong. She is currently a voice performance student at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland, studying under soprano Ah Young Hong. Her most memorable roles include “Gretel” in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, “Lucy” in Menotti’s The Telephone, and “Norina” in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. Ms. Quarquesso has recently performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under the baton of Marin Alsop at Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Carnegie Hall.
