October 2008. The Moore Space, Miami’s most prominent alternative art space, will close in October 2008. Founded by Rosa de la Cruz and Craig Robins to help broaden the Miami contemporary art scene, The Moore Space has garnered international acclaim for its high quality, cross-disciplinary exhibitions, its commissioned artist’s projects, its educational programming and its studio residency program.
The Moore Space has presented a number of innovative exhibitions, projects and performances featuring international and local artists including Hernan Bas, John Bock, Carlos Amorales, Jim Drain, Naomi Fisher, Allora and Calzadilla, Jeppe Hein, Aida Ruilova, Jim Lambie and Bert Rodriguez. Artists such as Joan Jonas, Patty Chang, Tracy + The Plastics, TM Sisters and Kalup Linzy were invited to present site specific performances.
In 2007, The Moore Space began an artist’s residency program in collaboration with organizations abroad like DAAD in Berlin, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon and Le Plateau in Paris to promote an interchange of contemporary art making practices and create a dialogue between Miami and other cities.
