Carnival Center for the Performing Arts From Feb 8th through Apr 12th, 2007Carnival Center for the Performing Arts’ The Living Room series returns in 2007 with a piano edition – Jazz In Any Language — featuring renowned pianists Jean-Michel Pilc on February 8th, Michael Orta on March 8th and Adrian Iaies on April 12th, 2007. For The Living Room series, the Center’s Studio Theater will be transformed into a cozy jazz club for one-night only performances by nationally recognized artists as well as hometown favorites. Cocktail tables will be arranged around the stage and food and drinks will be available to enjoy during the performance on these three evenings. French pianist Jean-Michel Pilc will make his Miami debut on February 8th with a performance at 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Pilc is a dazzling improviser and an interpreter of Schubert, Ellington, Gershwin, Monk, and more. Directly following the second performance, the audience and the general public are invited to a question-and-answer session, with Jean-Michel Pilc, and moderated by a jazz expert. For the second installment of The Living Room Jazz Series, Piano Edition, Miami’s own Michael Orta performs in the Studio Theater on Thursday, March 8 at 8:00 p.m. Orta fuses jazz and Latin traditions as he reinterprets classic boleros in the language of jazz for this performance. He is a composer, associate professor and director of jazz at Florida International University, and has toured the world performing with renowned artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Toots Thielemans, Nestor Torres, and Arturo Sandoval. Carnival Center will host a free pre-performance interview and listening session with Michael Orta and moderated by a jazz expert at 6:30 p.m. in the Studio Theater. Argentina’s three-time Latin Grammy Award nominee Adrian Iaies will close the season’s The Living Room series in the Studio Theater on Thursday, April 12th with performances at 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Iaies, recipient of the Clarín Award for Best Jazz Musician of 2002, performs contemporary jazz laced with tango and creates shimmering piano melodies accompanied by Argentina’s quintessential instrument, the bandoneón. Carnival Center will host a free pre-performance interview and listening session with Adrian Iaies at 6:30 p.m. in the Studio Theater moderated by jazz expert Fernando Gonzalez.
