The South Florida community is invited to participate in the It Gets Better Project which began when Dan Savage and his husband, Terry Miller, created a YouTube video in which supporter from all around the world assured youth who felt bullied that “it gets better”. What started as a grassroots campaign evolved into community residencies and one is set to take place in Broward in June.
The Broward residency project, presented by Slow Burn Theatre with support from the Community Foundation of Broward, invites teens and adults to work together with the actors from It Gets Better to create their own unique work focusing on themes of anti-bullying, self-image, tolerance and acceptance. The workshop culminates in a live performance including poems, songs, skits, spoken word and more from the It Gets Better program partners and our local participants. A total of 40 participants (ages 16+) are anticipated to work with 8 touring cast members. A South Florida chorus will add a musical dimension to the show.
