altThe Miami Beach cinematheque is proud to present the Premier “Digital” presentation of the film The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, in collaboration with Emerging Pictures. Directed by american born, british screenwriter, film director, animator, actor and member of the Monty Python comedy troupe Terry Gillium in 2009, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present-day. It tells the story of Dr. Parnassus and his extraordinary Imaginarium, a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom.

The tragic loss of Heath Ledger during the production threatened closedown, but Gilliam fought to reconfigure the story without losing the fine performance which his star had already committed to film. Results are “another inspiring visual session conceived by the master of fantasy, or the mad scientist of cinema, however you like to call Terry Gilliam”. (Filminspiration). Starring Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell and  Tom Waits, the 122 mins film have won two Academy Award Nominee for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
