The Miami Beach Cinematheque will present the premier digital presentation of Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress, as part the The Kurosawa Centennial screening series, in collaboration with Miami Theatrical Digital Premiere.
A general and a princess must dodge enemy clans while smuggling the royal treasure out of hostile territory with two bumbling, conniving peasants at their sides; it’s a spirited adventure that only Akira Kurosawa could create.
One of the greatest action-adventure films ever made, and acknowledged as a primary influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars, The Hidden Fortress delivers Kurosawa’s inimitably deft blend of wry humor, breathtaking action and humanist compassion on an epic scale. Won Berlin Film Festival Best Director and FIPRESCI Prize, Blue Ribbon Awards Best FilmKinema Junpo Awards Best Screenplay. Directed by Akira Kurosawa. Japan. 1958. 139mins. Featuring Toshiro Mifune, Minoru Chiaki and Kamitari Fujiwara
