Students take an in-depth look at European culture through the eyes of a movie camera. – A unique opportunity during a recession where national and local budget cuts have increased and school districts across the nation are scrambling for new innovative ways to maintain the quality of education for students. While history tells us that during difficult economic times the arts are often the first subject area to be cut, Red Chemistry Inc., is determined to share the passion for film and international culture despite financial setbacks.
The festival encourages the talents of young aspiring filmmakers through its year-round programming, which contains educational activities, workshops, master classes, and its annual film festival. Close to 2000 students ages 14-17 enrolled in the following schools participated; Miami Beach High School, Hialeah High School, and Isch Charter School. Students analyzed and sorted through the competition’s entries, learning about the language, social issues, and creative styles of filmmaking. The films are judged by a panel of industry professionals including directors, scriptwriters, producers, and teachers. Winning films will receive a cash prize as well as an opportunity for their work to be displayed on the movie channel, Eurocinema, an On-Demand movie channel that offers International films in the United States and Canada.
