The Troubadours Instrumental Ensemble from Archbishop Curley Notre Dame Prep will be “playing the Blackboard Blues” this Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 7:30 pm! The community is invited to hear live performances by this award-winning group such as: Key’s “The Star Spangled Banner,” Taylor’s “Mystic Mountain, and Estes’ “Blackboard Blues.” Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
The Knightingales (ACND’s choir) will entertain guests with selections from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”- a recent school musical production performed at ACND and area middle schools. And, there will also be a special guest performance by percussionist and Yamaha Performing Artist, Elizabeth Galvan.
Ms. Galvan has two percussion performance degrees from the University of Miami and the Manhattan School of Music, and is currently pursuing an Artists Diploma at UM. She holds adjunct faculty positions at many area schools including Miami Dade College. Ms. Galvan is one of the three musicians featured on Ney Rosauro’s CD “Early Mallet Works.”
Just like the Minstrels who traveled from village to village during the Middle Ages, the ACND Troubadours strive to bring their music to as many people as possible. This year, the ensemble has performed at the ING Marathon in Miami Beach; Miami Dade County Youth Fair; Good Friday Processional at Corpus Christi; and individual students have been adjudicated and performed in Honors Band performances throughout the State.
ACND Prep’s Summer Knights Camp will be launching “Creative Connections” a new visual and performing arts program where middle school age students not only develop artistic skills, but connect with Wynwood and Design District arts organizations, and learn how to prepare for an exhibition and show. The program begins on June 17, 2013 for 5 weeks. Registration has begun and space is limited.
