Miami-Dade County Auditorium and Teatro Avante present En Ningún Lugar del Mundo (Nowhere in the World) by playwright Abel González Melo. The dramatic comedy explores the relations between Cubans from two shores, and poses the question: Do visible borders define one’s homeland? Exile breaks up families, and years of separation produce the mirage of a reunion.
After a long forced exile, Ángel returns to the family home in Havana. His sister Inés prepares the wake of the mother-in-law at home, while her husband Fernando arranges for the burial. Ángel is accompanied by his son Christian, who on his first trip to the island is full of illusions. Forced to leave Cuba, Ángel has had to reinvent himself in another land that’s given him many opportunities, and above all, has allowed him to build a new life together with his son, and discover love. Because without love we don’t have a homeland. Nowhere in the world does he fit in, except where he is.
Founded in 1979, Teatro Avante is a nonprofit, tax-exempt cultural organization whose main goal is the preservation of Hispanic cultural heritage.
Performances Thursday, January 31, Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2 at 8:30pm, and Sunday, February 3 at 5pm.
