October 2013. Over the summer, the online database of Miami Beach’s historic buildings doubled in size! To date, information on over 550 properties has been collected and entered into MDPL’s historic property database. Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, Lincoln Road, Espanola Way and more locations are already online.

Wolfsonian Museum-FIU. October 18, 2013, 7:00 p.m. Join New York-based architect and interior designer William T. Georgis , whose work Elle Decor describes as “uptown but impertinent”, for a free book signing and reception in The Wolfsonian’s café.

September 2013. More than three dozen new objects, along with two new special installations, are part of the recently updated Art and Design in the Modern Age: Selections from The Wolfsonian Collection (ADMA). The updated installation retains the exhibition’s core themes and overall structure while refreshing its graphic identity, refining the exhibition design, revising text panels, and introducing new material.

While the wide spread destruction of historic homes continues unabated through out the city, Miami Design Preservation League’s continued efforts to keep a bright light on this issue has helped create some positive results.

August 2013. The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) under the direction of Maestro Eduardo Marturet will celebrate its upcoming 25th Anniversary season with an assortment of new programs, including five World Premieres, three South Florida premieres and such renowned guest artists as classical guitarist Angel Romero, flautist Nestor Torres and Mexican guest conductor Alondra de la Parra.

April 2013. Imagine a center that fostered peace by incorporating elements of different religions in one space. That’s what Miami Dade Colleges (MDC) architecture students did recently for eight weeks. The team won a competition sponsored by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation and Global Education Foundation in March.

From May 2 through June 1 2013. The newest gallery to open in Miami, C-Art Gallery, in collaboration with the prestigious Marlborough Gallery in New York, presents Reflections, a solo exhibition by Spanish artist David Rodriguez Caballero. Curated by Kosme de Baraños, the show takes place at O. Ascanio Gallery in Wynwood as a “pop-up” exhibition.

April 2013. Timescapes, a five-story mixed-media mural created by South Florida’s New World School of the Arts (NWSA), by college visual artists Jeffrey Noble and Sebastian Duncan-Portuondo, was recently unveiled at Miami’s Sagamore Hotel. Residents and visitors of Wynwood can now enjoy the neighborhood’s first permanent artistic crosswalk: a work aimed to transform the intersection of Northwest Second Avenue and 25th Street. University of Miami Frost School of Music student Asiya Korepanova, 28, of Russia won the gold medal and performed as one of seven piano finalists out of 46 competitors from sixteen countries in the 2012 Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana last week. November 2012. Florida Grand Opera (FGO) recently announced the recipient of the 2013 Henry C. Clark Conductor Award, Maestro Ramon Tebar. FGO’s Music Director and conductor of the season-opening production of La bohème, Tebar was recently honored by the company’s new General Director and CEO, Susan T.
