From February 17 through March 17, 2012. Fredric Snitzer Gallery is presenting Rites of Passage, the third solo exhibition by artist Michael Vasquez, whose work has been exhibited at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami Art Museum, Rubell Family Collection, Bass Museum of Art, MoCA NoMi, University of Tennessee, the Franks-Suss Collection and Saatchi Gallery in London.

Through April 7, 2012. Diana Lowenstein Gallery is presenting Architectonics, a solo exhibition of new work by Miami-based artist Julie Davidow. For this exhibition, Davidow has created a series of paintings with a focus on the relationship between the architecture of contemporary art museums and the artwork that is enshrined within these structures.

From Nov 12 through Dec 6, 2011. Apart from the literal implications of the show’s title, ‘Sex, Drugs & Profanity’ explores the varying modalities of social norms and, simultaneously, taboos with which contemporary artists consistently wrestle with.

From October 22 through December 5, 2011. Pan American Art Projects presents Fragmentos (Fragments), a solo show by Cuban artist Jose Manuel Fors. This will be Fors’ first exhibition in Miami, and the artist has prepared a considerable amount of new works, including pieces and installations that will be created in situ.

Through Oct 29, 2011. Myra Galleries has been dedicated to presenting the work of top international pop artists since emerging in the Wynwood Arts District in February 2011. Now it continues to do so with a curated exhibition of 20 acrylic on canvas pieces by Korean artist Lee Ik-Ryeol, each pertaining to the wild and heart-stopping world of professional car racing.

Through Nov 19, 2011. Charest-Weinberg is currently presenting Tabula Rasa, a suite of new drawings by Tim Maxwell. Based in New York City, this is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

Oct 22, 2011. 5:00 p.m. Alberto Linero Gallery presents an uncanny interpretation of “body painting” by guest artist Cristina Botero during the Wynwood Art Fair from October 21 through 23, 2011.   Using fluorescent acrylic paint, Botero will wear a white leotard and use her limbs and appendages to apply the paint on a white canvas directly outside of the contemporary Wynwood gallery.  

Apart from the major institutions here in Miami (MAM, MOCA, Bass and the private collections), it’s rather difficult to get up close to works by internationally established artists, considered masters in their own country. In Wynwood, the Ascaso Gallery breaks that spell.
