A vocalist in her mid thirties, whose family hails from Equatorial Guinea, Concha Buika is no conventional flamenco singer; her husky voice is stepped in R&B and gospel, and her band, blending guitar and piano over ultra-subtle percussion, has all the elegance and poise of a straight-ahead jazz group. The results are nothing less than hypnotic. A star is born." Noted the London Sunday Times.
Concha Buika grew up alongside a gypsy community on the Spanish island of Mallorca. A new star in flamenco music, with a remarkable voice that has been described as a mix of Lola Flores, Sarah Vaughan, Sade and Tina Turner. Buika mixes soul, jazz and funk with raw flamenco to telling effect. After making several deep house productions she brought out her first solo CD in 2006, "Mi Niña Lola". Buika shares her time between Mallorca and Madrid.
