It would seem as if we would have exhausted our artistic capacity by now as our city has become “the city that never sleeps” when it comes to art. However, thankfully for us, that is absurd and, dare I say, impossible. As we have agreed on before, we are no longer “up-and-coming”; we are purely “up-and-running” and one of the most exciting things for us, as citizens of this incredible Mecca of the arts, is having the luxury to expect something new every season and not be let down. This year, SOLO Art Miami, a new fair set to own three days every November, arrives to fulfill our insatiable desire for more, more, more.
SOLO Art Miami’s claim to fame will be its distinctive showcasing of individual (i.e. Solo) contemporary artists without gallery representation, providing a new opportunity for us to support new and emerging artists in continuance of our growth as an already established art capital. “The mission of SOLO Art Miami is to organize and present an annual art fair that helps promote and develop the endeavors of individual artists,” says the SOLO Art Group, fair organizers and long-time local arts supporters.
Cuban-American artist, and SOLO Art Group founding member, Gilda Sacasas, leads the way as participating artist and the fair’s executive director, presenting Konstantin Goldenberg, Shang Hu Hou, Federico Carosio III, Humberto Benitez, Ariel Tejera, Tadeo Lazaro, Dania Sierra, and Emilio Sauma, among others, who submitted winning entries to the fair’s panel of knowledgeable professionals this past summer.
Presented by Medica HealthCare Plans, and held at the newly renovated Miami Airport Convention Center (MACC), formerly the Double Tree Miami/Airport Hotel and Exhibition Center, SOLO Art Miami promises an incredible selection of pieces by 100 artists, all eager to reveal paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, printmaking, drawing and mixed media pieces to Miami locals and visitors alike during the city’s peak tourism and cultural season; “SOLO Art Miami is an excellent prelude to the famed Art Basel,” says Sacasas.
Fair attendees expect to be among 14,000 more guests in attendance. A VIP lounge and additional services, provided by active fair sponsors Univision Radio, The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, Bacardi, The Miami Herald, Barry University, and others, is available to select guests and visiting enthusiasts; the participation of such corporate entities only emphasizes how crucial the existence of the arts is to our city.
SOLO Art Miami is organized by SOLO Art Group, LLC, comprised of Gilda Sacasas, Vivian Pena Martinez, and Patricia Leon – “three women whose friendship and admiration for each other dates back more than 30 years…” as avowed in their statement.
