Cannonball Artist-in-Residence and current CIFO Grant and Commissions Award-winner Alice Miceli will present an artist’s talk on recent works that explore the phenomenon of impenetrable places that, even in our globalized world, remain somehow off the map. Introducing various works, including her current research into minefields, the talk will ultimately focus on a recent project centered on the creation of visualization patterns for the invisible radioactive contamination in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, in Belarus.
Alice Miceli utilizes formal experimentation, investigative travel, and archival research to chart the visual, physical, and cultural manifestations of trauma inflicted on social and natural landscapes. In photographs, videos, and installations, her projects explore not only their depicted subjects, but the history of their representation in different media formats.
