Primary Projects Presents Carrie Sieh: Learn To Embroider Your Very a Own Mourning Handkerchief

From April 18, 2014 through June 20, 2014. In conjunction with solo exhibition, A Castle Dismal, from Christina Pettersson

During the Victorian Era, mourning rituals were strictly adhered to; even the colors you wiped your tears with. Embroider your own initials so that you may gift it to the person who will mourn your loss the most. Some handkerchiefs will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Needles and thread will be provided, as well as handouts to work with at home. Bring examples of embroidery passed down in your own family to share. The event is presented by artist Carrie Sieh.

Carrie Sieh is a multidisciplinary artist whose mediums include painting, textiles, photography, and repurposed materials. Her practice focuses primarily on the roles of technology, psychology, and political economy in human behavior. Her most recent solo exhibition, Textiles For Men and Machine Breakers, interpreted the cultural history of post-Industrial-Revolution masculinity as a series of large, mixed-media works based on quilt making techniques.

The event is held in conjunction with The Castle Dismal, a solo exhibition from Christina Pettersson, open now through June 20, 2014. Open during programming for viewing.

Admission: Free and open to the public
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Friday from 11:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm
