Tigertail Productions presents jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant in concert on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 8:30pm at The Colony Theatre, Miami Beach. She will be accompanied by a trio consisting of pianist Adam Birnbaum, bassist Paul Sikivie and drummer Lawrence Leathers. This event is part of Tigertail’s month-long FLA-FRA (Florida-France) Festival.
Twenty-four-year old Cécile McLorin Salvant was born and raised in Miami of a French mother and Haitian father. Cécile performs unique interpretations of unknown and scarcely-recorded jazz and blues compositions. She combines conservatory-honed technique with a gift for lyrical interpretation. She appeared at the Arsht Center in December 2013, appearing with Winton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Cécile started classical piano studies at age five and began singing in the Miami Choral Society at age eight. She studied classical voice at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory in Aix-en-Provence, France. In 2010, she won the Thelonious Monk competition in Washington, D.C. Her record, WomanChild was nominated for the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
FLA-FRA (Florida-France) is a new Tigertail festival taking place in April 2014, celebrating art from France, Florida and beyond. A community-wide fête of concerts, films, pop-up performances and other events held throughout theaters and unexpected locations in Miami, FLA-FRA embraces the French spirit of joie de vivre. FLA-FRA events will occur every day during the month of April. A full calendar of events for the FLA-FRA Festival can be found on Tigertail’s website.
