Opening Night: Friday, April 4, 2014 at 8:00pm
Canadian Nuevo Flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook performs at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center on Friday, April 4 at 8:00pm.
Widely considered to be one of the most influential figures in “new flamenco” (or “Nuevo Flamenco”), Jesse Cook’s passionate style is heavily influenced by Gypsy music and has been featured on episodes of Sex In The City, The Chris Isaac Show, and The Tonight Show. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Irina Slutskaya of Russia won a bronze medal skating to Cook’s composition “Mario Takes a Walk”. More recently, Canada’s Gabrielle Daleman and Russian pairs Stolbova and Klimov’s skated to Cook’s music in their routines at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
Cook won a Juno Award in the Best Instrumental Album category for Free Fall. In 2009, he was Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s Player’s Choice Award Silver winner in the Flamenco category. He is a three-time winner of the Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Guitarist of the Year.
Cook’s performance at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, called The Blue Guitar Tour after his latest studio album, marks his exploration of a new sound reminiscent of the Miles Davis era: romantic, late night, exotic, hypnotic—another luxurious side of this guitarist’s artistry.
Admission: $25.00-$46.00 (General admission), $100.00 for a special VIP Ticket which includes a meet-and-greet with Jesse Cook and an autographed poster
