Six Contemporary Dances With Special Guest Choreographers
This year’s New World School of the Arts College Spring Dance Concert will be an exciting and varied program, featuring the work of respected faculty choreographers as well as other world-renowned choreographers including Robert Battle (Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Company) and Darshan Singh Bhuller.
The concert will present six dances in a variety of styles and moods. The driving dance is Rush Hour, choreographed by guest artist and Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Company (and NWSA Dance alum) Robert Battle; a contemporary hip-hop work,
P-Funk by renowned choreographer Rennie Harris; a new work created for NWSA dancers by British choreographer Darshan Singh Bhuller entitled 1914 (which recently premiered during the Rising Stars showcase, commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I); guest choreographer Ana Gonzalez (formerly of the Stephen Petronio Dance Company) has created a new work entitled Crowd Dynamic; NWSA modern faculty member Peter London will present a new work entitled Butterfly Behind Wall Street; and NWSA ballet faculty member Gerard Ebitz will present a contemporary ballet, Away.
At New World School of the Arts, dance students receive instruction from accomplished dancers and choreographers and grow through disciplined guidance and training as they develop their personal style and repertoire. Through its educational partnerships, NWSA’s audition-based programs, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance, Music, Theater and Art and Design, offer the high school diploma as well as the BFA and BM college degrees. Areas of concentration in dance include Ballet, Choreography, Modern Dance and World Dance.
