National YoungArts Week is YoungArt’s signature program that aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and community while offering Finalists the guidance needed to prepare for the next stage of their artistic development.
During the intensive, weeklong and all-inclusive program, artists across 10 disciplines participate in master classes and workshops with internationally recognized leaders in their field, which include:
Tony Award winner Santino Fontana (2000 Winner in Voice & U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts);
Academy Award-winning film editor Doug Blush (1984 Winner in Film);
Award-winning journalist, author and provocative cultural critic Dr.Joan Morgan
Acclaimed visual artist Derrick Adams
Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter Betty Wright
Photographer and visual artist EndiaBeal
McArthur Fellow and flutist Claire Chase
Bessie-award winning choreographer ReggieWilson
American jazz bassist and composer Rufus Reid
and design strategist Gena Cuba, among many others
Throughout the week, Finalists’ work will be further adjudicated to determine additional award levels. Each evening, audiences can experience the work of the next generation of artists through performances in Voice, Jazz, Theater, Dance and Classical Music, as well as film screenings at New World Center, writers’ readings in the YoungArts Jewel Box, and a Design, Photography and Visual Arts exhibition in the YoungArts Gallery.
