Mike Mills of the mega rock band R.E.M. pairs up with Robert McDuffie, to present an eclectic evening of works by John Adams, Philip Glass, and Mills himself. Inspired by the increasingly blurred lines between classical and pop music, McDuffie commissioned his longtime friend Mills to compose his Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra. The piece expertly blends Mills’ prolific pop songwriting with McDuffie’s brilliance in the classical realm.
The Program will include Adams’ Road Movies; Glass’ Symphony No. 3; Mills’ Concerto for violin, rock band and string orchestra. Orchestration and additional music by David Mallamud.
