Count Almaviva and Rosina, trying their damndest to be together against all odds – the biggest impediment being Rosina’s guardian, Doctor Bartolo, who has been keeping his ward under hatches in the hopes of marrying her himself and acquiring her considerable dowry.
The amorous count has to assume several disguises and solicit the aid of his former servant Figaro (the titular barber), to carry out his perilous courtship under the very nose of his elderly rival; moreover, he had met Rosina while masquerading as the less consequential Lindoro and continues the masquerade to assure himself that she loves him for his own sake rather than his title and fortune.
This production of The Barber of Seville, directed by Raffaele Cardone, features Nelson Martinez as Figaro, Jorge David Pereira as Almaviva, Lissette Jimenez as Rosina, Stefano de Peppo as Dr. Bartolo, Carlos Conde as Don Basilio. Orchestra and Chorus of Miami Lyric Opera, with Chorusmaste Pablo Hernandez and Conductor Beverly Coulter.
Tickets are $45, $35 and $25. Students with ID $25 only at Box Office. Tickets sales at Olympia Theater at Gusman Arts Center or online www.miamilyricopera.org and tickets.gusmancenter.org
