Miami International Piano Festival Launches Series at the New Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

From Nov 28th, 2010 through Sept 25th, 2011.

altKnown for bringing the world’s best pianists and rising stars to South Florida, the Miami International Piano Festival proudly announces a brand new series of performances that will take place at the newly opened Aventura Arts and Cultural Center (AACC). Dubbed the Aventura Cultural Series, the concerts will take advantage of the beautifully elegant and high-tech facility set amidst a spectacular waterfront backdrop in the heart of the Aventura.

The first concert of the Series will open the Festival (the fourteenth annual) with a fascinating program by Italian keyboard master, Francesco Libetta on November 28th at 4:00 p.m. This unique program will feature compositions by Chopin and others that specifically pay tribute to Chopin’s fascination with Italian theatre, sopranos, singers and ballerinas. In addition to Chopin’s three Brilliant Waltzes (Op. 34, No. 1,2,3) and various Nocturnes, Preludes and Mazurkas, Libetta has included his own transcription of the Italian singer, songwriter, filmmaker and painter, Franco Battiato’s La Cura (The Cure) as well as some lighter works by Ildebrando Pizzetti. An enlightening post-concert discussion by “Miami’s Music Maven” Professor Frank Cooper, will enhance the program.

The Miami International Piano Festival has secured four more dates at this beautiful new venue for the 2011 season and hopes to continue presentations on a monthly basis thereafter. Most programs will take place on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. and will provide piano lovers and classical music enthusiasts in general, with a unique cultural experience that goes beyond the traditional recital format. Each artist will take advantage of this intimate 324 seat theatre and communicate directly with the audience to share their musical visions: why certain repertoire was chosen, why the composers’ work resonates for them, what inspirations drive the program. In this fashion the concerts will break away from the typical and sometimes sterile solo recital format and make the music and the musicians more accessible.

The Aventura Cultural Series continues on January 9th with a program that features “pianist to watch” and UM student Luis Urbina (Venezuela) with 15 year-old violinist, Michael Province (USA). This team was a crowd pleaser at a recent community “Curtain Up” event held at the AACC. To round out the season, the following programs are scheduled:
