Miami Bach Society celebrates Masterpieces of Baroque Choral Music

First United Methodist Church of South Miami
April 3, 2012. 8:00 p.m.

The Miami Bach Society will perform a program of Baroque Choral Masterpieces, which will include works of Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel, Giacomo Carisimi and Johann Michael Bach. The evening will also feature the modern world premier of the grand motet, Pange Lingua, by French composer, Michel Richard de Lalande. Written for King Louis XIV in 1689, and part of the Holy Week liturgy, it was no doubt performed in the Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles.

Donald Oglesby, founder of the Miami Bach Society, will direct the University of Miami Symphonic Choir, the Miami Collegium Musicum and the Miami Bach Society Chamber Orchestra. Soloists are Karen Neal, soprano, Katherine Wiggins, alto, Tony Boutté, tenor and Jeffrey Wienand, baritone.

The performance will take place at the First United Methodist Church of South Miami. Tickets are $30 general admission and $40 preferred seating. Students 18 years old and younger are admitted free of charge. College and Graduate students pay $5.
