Metro Pictures Part Two at MOCA

From May 4th through Sep 17th, 2006Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami and The Moore Space have joined forces to co-present metro pictures, an extraordinary two-part group exhibition that brings together artists who explore issues of contemporary urban life. This exhibition includes work in diverse media, including painting, sculpture, video, photography, performance, and public art. While the artists in the exhibition are from varied locations and work in different media, their works all serve as “snapshots” of urban life, which define, interpret and navigate the city landscape. Silvia Karman Cubina, curator of the show, commented, “The City is not a specific location but rather a concept of space whereby artists explore the psychologies, conflicts, resolutions and states of mind that entail negotiating with surroundings, people and change”. Metro Pictures addresses social issues shared by large populations. Works address personal histories and illustrate relationships, as well as topics that explore political and philosophical perspectives on race, environment, and other social concerns. Artists in Metro Pictures Part Two, on view at Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, fetures the works of Susan Lee Chun, Kota Ezawa, Quisqueya Henriquez, Marisa Jahn and Steven Shada, Helen Levitt, Lucy Orta, Damian Ortega, Sven Pahlssen, George Sanchez-Calderon, among others.
