Margarita Cano presents early works at Books & Books Coral Gables

Fri 4 Aug, 2017

She’s back! The 85-year-old dynamo, Margarita Cano,  just won’t stop creating. She has curated a new exhibition that will showcase a collection of her silkscreen prints on paper, originally produced in 1972. These works are an exploration of abstract images and variations, hand-painted studies and visual experiments. We are so proud to exhibit the work of this multi-faceted, enduring artist and cornerstone in our local community over the past 30 years.

Margarita Cano was born in Havana, Cuba in 1932. She was educated at the bilingual American school, Ruston Academy and later, the University of Havana. Before moving to the United States, she worked at the Havana National Museum and at the Julio Lobo Napoleon Museum. She arrived in the United States in October, 1962, where she went on to lead a 30-year career at the Miami-Dade Public Library as a Community Relations and Art Services Coordinator. Cano developed her artistic skills after retiring in 1993, going on to create many exhibitions featured in galleries in Miami, New York City and San Juan, Puerto Rico. She has also written and illustrated several books for children.
