Lowe Art Museum. Ivan Albreht: Repetitive Choices

This spring the University of Miami Lowe Art Museum is hosting a faculty exhibition highlighting the work of Ivan Albreht. Ivan Albreht: Repetitive Choices is on view at the Lowe from through May 29, 2011. Ivan Albreht was born and raised in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia. He is Assistant Professor of Ceramics / Sculpture at the Department of Art and Art History at UM. Albreht’s current work explores issues of individuality in the sociopolitical context of the western society. He is specifically interested in ways in which technological advancement, consumerism and global politics influence the emergence of an individual. He is engaged in exploring the perception of “beauty” in Western society.

Albreht has actively exhibited both nationally and internationally since 1997. Solo exhibitions include WeissPollack Gallery in NYC; University of Pittsburg in Bradford; Gallery of American Cultural Center in Belgrade. International competitions include Ceramics of Europe – The Westerwald Prize 2009; The Sixth Taiwan Golden Ceramics Awards 2001. His work has received significant recognition, including Special Prize at the 4th World Ceramic Biennale 2007 in Korea, the largest and most competitive juried international exhibition in the field of ceramic arts. In 2009, Albreht was nominated and elected as member of International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) based in Genève, Switzerland. He has also participated in several artist residency programs in the United States and Europe.
