The Gables Cinema continues its late-night weekend Gables After Hours series with the Exclusive Miami Theatrical Premiere of Xan Cassavetes’ (daughter of noted director John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands) sexy retro-vampire film, Kiss of the Damned, on Saturday, May 11, at 11:30 pm, in 2K Digital Cinema Projection. The film tells the bloody forbidden love story of a sexy female vampire and, a human screenwriter, played by Milo Ventimiglia, from the popular TV series Heroes, ironically referencing every trashy, 1960s horror film ever made. Gables After Hours showcases an eclectic mix of films ranging from the strange, sexy, horrific, beautiful and offbeat, all at the “witching hour” of 11:30 pm.
Kiss of the Damned tells an intriguing story of vampires trying to find meaning in their lives, and coming to terms with the dilemmas of immortality. Its main character is the beautiful vampire Djuna, played by the electric Joséphine de la Baume, who is surrounded by some earnest, and at times, campy, good and bad immortals, and her entranced mortal lover. In her director’s statement about the film, Cassavetes says “I am not a fanatical vampire person, although there are certain vampire films, mainly European, which have burned in my mind ever since seeing them as a teenager. Their beauty, formality and atmosphere continue to fascinate me. They are fantasies that reflect reality with their depiction of a kind of breathtaking power, loneliness and quest for survival.” CraveOnline says the film is, “Crazy.Kinky.Cool.”
