Presenting Su-En Wong From Jan 13th through Mar 3rd, 2007Kevin Bruk Gallery is opening its first solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by artist Su-En Wong. The opening reception will be held on January 13th, 2007 from coinciding with the monthly Wynwood Gallery Walk, and will remain open until March 3rd, 2007. The work of Su-en Wong is as clever as it is alluring. Utilizing her exceptional skill in drawing and drafting, Wong combines minimal and vast monochromatic fields of acrylic paint on board with the highly representational and painstakingly rendered subject matter in colored pencil. Often off-centered with the bulk of the compositions either to the left or right, the works are wrought with the nuances of the give-and-take world of sexual desire, where Wong serves herself on the plate as the delivery mechanism. In each work, the viewer will see multiple representations of Wong, as she presents herself occupying a particular setting. Often nude, or in suggestive costume, the many “Su-ens” interact with each other in an environment that caters to the matter at hand, which is largely adult fantasy. Born in Singapore in 1973, Wong came to the United States at the age of sixteen to pursue piano performance. Due to stage fright, she took up her next love of drawing and eventually received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. 2006. Wong lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
