Miniaci Performing Arts Center. May 8th, 2010. 8:00 p.m.
Few jazz artists have the ability to let their musical creativity transcend and bridge multiple musical categories. Gospel, Classical, Blues, even Country, pianist, composer, writer and philosopher Kenny Werner displays effortless mastery of his instrument every single day, as does Joe Lovano, one of the foremost saxophonists and innovators of our time. It is rare to have artists of their lofty standing appear together, and it has never happened in Florida. This will be a memorable jazz event.
Kenny Werner is natural from Brooklyn, and his introduction to music came at early age when he joined a children’s song and dance group. While still in high school, he attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he became a concert piano major upon completion of his high school studies. In over a quarter century of performing, Werner has played with many jazz greats. Today he continues to share a long and creative relationship with good friend Joe Lovano, who is natural from Cleveland, Ohio and was exposed throughout his early life to jazz by his father, Tony “Big T” Lovano. Since the late 1980s, Lovano has been one of the world’s premiere tenor saxophone players, earning a Grammy award.Tickets are $35.00.
