Karen Peterson & Dancers presents "Live Music Meets Live Dance"

May 12 and 13, 2012. 4:00 p.m.

Four musicians from the CrossTown String Quartet will collaborate on stage with members of the Karen Peterson & Dancers troupe in two unique performances which combine live classical music and contemporary dance. The performances will take place on Saturday, May 12 at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 13, at 4:00 p.m. at the New World School of the Arts in downtown Miami.

Excerpts from works by J.S.Bach, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Britten and Piazzola will be performed by the CrossTown String Quartet, which features some of Miami’s most talented musicians: Orlando Forte and Miriam Stern on Violin, Viera Borisova on Viola, and Konstantin Litvinenko on Cello. The Cross Town String Quartet performs often in the Dade community which showcases the quartet’s ability to crossover from traditional classical string performance to explorations into all genres of music.

In “Empty Rooms / Open Window” five dancers manipulate perpetually moving silk panels hung eight feet off the stage floor. The fabric represents the delicacy of life and the rope represents the ultimate and difficult journey to death. The dancers rise and fall, swing and tumble and use the fabric as off balance leverage while moving. “Potpourria” features eleven dancers, four whom use wheelchairs with guests, Dwayne Scheunenman and Karon Montgomery from Revolutions Dance Company, another mixed-ability dance troupe located in Tampa, Florida. A series of duets and quartets will be orchestrated and played by the CrossTown String Quartet.

General admission is $20.00, $15.00, for seniors over 60 and a 50% discount for Mothers on Mother’s Day. A special $5.00 tickets is available to MDCC, NWSA and MDPS students with ID.
