May 15th, 2014 – Friday, May 16th, 2014, 8:00pm
Dance artists from Karen Peterson and Dancers, the Southeast’s Premiere Mixed – Ability Company, come together with the video arts in an intimate setting.
“GRIT” performed by Karen Peterson and Dancers, is a multimedia dance work choreographed by Karen Peterson and Katrina Weaver and created in collaboration with video artist Dinorah de Jesus Rodriquez. Through the use of movement, sound and video projection the physical, social and emotional connotations of “grit” are explored as the relationship between the visual, the physical and the visceral are amplified on the stage.
Struggle, desperation, fear and the fight for power or dominance are common undertones and themes that are played out daily on a personal and global scale. This constant battle for power, control, preservation and survival is a theme played out on stage between the dancers and the relationship of the dancers to the projected images. It is this constant balancing act and fight for preservation that unites us, defines us and keeps us moving forward and is a part of our emotional, spiritual and biological make up. It is a fight for preservation and control that can come at the expense of ourselves, others and nature or can act as a unifying force.
General admission is $20, $15 dollars for seniors, students and individuals with disability. Tickets available at the door. Friday includes post performance reception. For more information call Karen Peterson at (305)298-5879 or email [email protected]
