Josafat Miranda’s most recent exhibition, Duality, is by definition referred to as, “the meeting of two different characters or characteristics found within the same person or thing.” These are works completed using different mediums such as oil, graphite, ink, colored pencil, etc.
A series that has been on exhibition since 2010 now shows the most recent works of the collection based in part on the book “The Perfect Crime” by Jean Boudrillard. The fragmentation of images constructs a figurative, abstract, and labyrinth-like aesthetic in which each fragment operates independently but at the same time, remains chained like a continuous temporal narrative. The absence of the world is present in every detail, like the absence of a subjects feature is present in every line of color. In addition to the use of white backgrounds in his images, he incorporates stuffed animals and masks tied to the subjects faces such as: panda, rabbit, or reindeer.
Miranda shows the portrayed personages in a world like a vast camera of openness and decompression; this grants the subjects to break free of all constraints and allows them to be what they truly are or what they would like to become. This could possibly be a way of representing the world’s exuberance and its contemporaries. The representations of bold reflection by Josafat Miranda give us a form that is absolutely and marvelously unsettling within the reality we have been made to live.
Josafat Miranda was born in Mexico City. Here is also where he completed his studies in Visual Arts at the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP). He has had over 15 individual exhibitions ranging from: In Search of Lost Time (Galeria Plastika, Mexico City, 2006), Forgotten Machines (Galeria Del Sol, Miami, FL, 2009), and Sacred Flight (Arts and Culture Center of Hollywood, Hollywood, FL, 2010). Josafat Miranda has also participated in diverse collections both within and outside of his native Mexico. Miranda’s works have received numerous awards and have been part of various international fairs. Josafat currently lives in Miami, FL but his works remain part of multiple collections around the world in countries such as: Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Spain, France, and the United States.
