Jazz Improv Workshop with Nestor Zurita

Arts at St. Johns. May 13th, 2010. 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

altJoin master saxophonist, Nestor Zurita as he presents a FREE workshop on jazz improvisation at Arts at St Johns. He’ll discuss the many different aspects of the music creation process, talk about the mix of a composition, different composers, cultural influences and the synchronicity of the process. Mr. Zurita’s workshop is open to all levels of musical talent. Advanced musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and participate.

Nestor Zurita studied at “Manhattan School of Music” and “The New School Jazz”. He has performed thru the United States, Europe, and various countries of Central and South America, playing hundreds of concerts in a wide variety of styles, from Jazz to Classical to Contemporary and Modern Music, and exploring and playing traditional miusic from arround the world. Nestor Has played with Steve Lacy, Dado Moroni, Aldo Zunino, Jovinho Santos Neto.

Mr. Zurita is a classical performer and has played with several symphony orchestras and has been a guest artist at various universities.
As a composer Nestor Zurita has written hundreds of works for various instruments and especially on the development of the saxophone.
Nestor Zurita was also the Director of the Jazz Department and of the Classical Saxophone Program in the National Conservatory of Ecuador and has taught students in the Paris Conservatorie and at the Nicolo Paganini Concervatorie in Italy.
