Oct 7th through 12th, 2010.
The eight edition of the Italian Film Festival of Miami is ready to open its curtains with the screening of ten new films at the Regal Cinema in South Beach. In reality, events related to the festival start over fifteen days before Opening Night with a tribute to classic Italian Cinema at the Tower Theater, Short Film at the Miami Beach Film Society and Documentaries at the Societa Dante Alighieri. Every year the Italian Film Festival attracts over 6,000 film lovers from South Florida, the rest of the states and abroad.
But the heart of a festival continues to be the presentation of new films in competition for the Best Film Award judged by the audience. This year’s selection includes the films Italians with Carlo Verdone, Sergio Castellitto and Riccardo Scamarcio (2009), Genitori e Figli directed by Giovanni Veronesi (2010), Generazione 1000 Euro by Massimo Vernier (2010), Io, Loro e Lara with Carlo Verdone (2010), L’uomo Nero, the latest work by director Sergio Rubini (2009), and many more.
“Italian movies have always been different from their Hollywood counterparts”, says Festival Director Claudio Di Persia, “I think they deserve a chance in the U.S. The Italian Film Festival allows them to have an exposure in this market and at the same time give American movie goers the chance to access movies that cannot be found at the multiplex”.
