Hugo Montoya at David Castillo Gallery From Feb 9th through Mar 3rd, 2007David Castillo Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of Miami-based artist Hugo Montoya In Heaven Everything Is Fine. Montoya received his B.F.A. from Florida International University in 2003, and has previously exhibited in group shows throughout Miami. His photography is sometimes completely planned and other times, altogether random. Montoya has described the present photographs as having shifted from cynicism toward romanticism. Whether the dynamic observed in a particular work is the random/magical or the entirely staged, the works are a journal of the end and the beginning of life with friends. The works are documentary pictures that tell the story the artist would have us believe. In the project room is another first-time solo exhibition by Ernesto Burgos. Burgos received his B.F.A. from California College of Arts (CCA) in San Francisco in 2004 and is currently a graduate student at NYU pursuing his M.F.A. His project room solo show Kilowattzz is in one sense, a departure from the previous work dealing more directly with references to architecture and other ideas of physical space. While the present flat collage pieces still deal with space, Kilowattzz also deals with the energies that circulate in these spaces. For more information, please call: 305.573.8110
