History of (In) Curiosity. Susan Lee-Chun at Miami Dade College

Feb 21 – Apr 26, 2015

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design presents new works by artist Susan Lee-Chun titled History of (In) Curiosity. Raised in Chicago, now residing in Miami, Susan Lee-Chun’s recent work takes an archaeological approach to explore themes of mapping and excavation of an unknown land. Her sculptural installations and photographs represent an excavation of a terrain, and the curiosity of origin and meaning through the discovery of artifacts. The extraction and display of these artifacts (and ideas) deeply buried in the sculptural terrain, portray a surface interest and yearning to find a link to a history of what they mean or meant to a time or people.

Susan Lee-Chun obtained her BFA from the Univ. of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has exhibited and performed widely in the U.S. and abroad, including at the Herning Kunstmuseum (Denmark), Vienna Biennale (2006), Pacific Asia Museum (L.A.), The Moore Space, David Castillo Gallery, and Museum of Contemporary Art (Miami). Lee-Chun has also held residencies at the Bemis Center in Omaha, NE, and Threewalls in Chicago, IL. Her work is found in public collections, including the Perez Art Museum in Miami, FL, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami.
