Historias de Amor. From Apr 11th through May 2009. 
The Cultural Center of Spain (CCE) opens the contemporary art show Historias de Amor (Love Stories), a selection of more than 50 pieces on homosexual relationships by some of the greatest contemporary artists including Tom of Finland, Bruce of Los Angeles and Derek Jarman or Ralf Köning. This way, CCE wants to join in celebrating Miami Beach’s first Gay Pride in 15 years, to be held on April 18th and 19th, 2009. CCE wants to support the City of Miami Beach in it’s effort for helping minorities in claiming their rights, thus creating a more pacific and fair society, and by giving the occasion a renewed cultural sense.
Historias de Amor is a selection of Works from Colección Visible, a Spanish foundation that has been working for years in creating a gay oriented art collection. The foundation’s objective is creating a gay art museum in Spain where works by the most relevant 20th Century artists could be presented and to highlight the role that art has is claiming respect for homosexuals.
All 52 pieces on the show include paintings, drawings, collages and other plastic techniques and they all have a common element in the subject. All the works show affection between people of the same sex. This way, we want to show an aspect of the homosexual reality that is not that known. Pablo Peinado, curator of the show, is to “foster social awareness by using art as an allied and work tool to create a message of freedom and the need to respect everybody’s rights.”
In addition to the show, CCE and Hardcore will offer several parallel activities to the 2009 Miami Beach Gay Pride, including the exhibit From Miami With Love at Miami Design Preservation League where several local artists will present their works on homosexuality. There will also be the special preview of the Spanish musical “Tómbola” by Marisol, at the Miami Beach Cinematheque, a Spanish Gay Film Cycle and a roundtable for gay activists and experts in contemporary art on the importance of art in the fight for homosexual rights to be hold in the Bass Museum.
The aim of this program is to create a cultural component to supplement the occasion and to foster dialogue in the community.
