In May of 2017, the Girl Choir of South Florida will present Dancing and Singing. All ensembles will open with Elizabeth Alexander’s If You Can Walk, You Can Dance, a fast-paced and joyful setting of this Zimbabwean proverb. Musical styles will range from traditional Baroque and Classical pieces to body percussion choirs of Latin and African rhythms.
Besides settings of American song traditions such as Shaker songs and Native American tribal dances, the program will include songs from around the world: Estonia, France, Haiti, Brazil, Japan, Lithuania, Hungary, and Venezuela.
