The Miami Beach Cinematheque Environmental Film Series in collaboration with ECOMB, The Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach, presents the theatrical premiere of the documentary Genesis as part of the Cinema Green Series. This 81-minutes French documentary was directed by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou in 2004.
From the amazing team that brought you “Microcosmos” comes this blend of humor, seriousness, innocence and wisdom which results when African storyteller Sotigui Kouyate uses the language of myth and fable to relate the birth of the universe and the appearance of life on Earth – in essence, the story of all of us. Kouyate wends a fascinating tale of time, matter, birth, love and death in which animals are the main players.
“Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou, the filmmakers behind 1996’s lilting bug opera “Microcosmos” are at it again — and boy are we glad. Several years in the making, “Genesis” offers the kind of eye-poppingly intimate footage that can only be obtained via infinite patience with special equipment in exotic locations. Terrific sound design and a splendid score by Bruno Coulais make this a package with near-universal appeal.”- Lisa Nesselson, Variety.
