April 21st, 2006The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami presents the world premiere of Roberto Sierra’s Sinfonia No. 2 on Friday, April 21 at 8:00 pm. The Frost Symphony Orchestra conducted by Thomas Sleeper, will perform this specially commissioned work made possible by the Abraham Frost Commission Series. Composer Roberto Sierra’s critically acclaimed works have been performed by the National Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Academy Award in Music by the American Academy of Arts and Letters. New commissions include works for the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. His works are recorded on the Fleur de Son, Dorian, Albany, and Urtext labels. This performance will be held at the Maurice Gusman Concert Hall located at the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music, 1314 Miller Drive, on the University of Miami’s Coral Gables Campus.
