Natalya Laskis. From Sept 29th through Oct 24th, 2009.
Fredric Snitzer Gallery presents the first solo exhibition by Miami artist Natalya Laskis. American Odyssey is a reflection on research of the American psyche, which the artist explores in a historical fashion.
Natalya Laskis has discovered a legacy of risk inherit to the American culture. Simple pleasures peppered with ever-present danger have always existed. Like Ulysses, one must dare to take that first step into the unknown in-order to experience adventure along the way. Facing the temptation of sirens, the potential for drowning, the perilous ness of modern day monsters, all for the sake of joy.Â
In this American Odyssey life’s simple pleasures are readily available to all, but commonly overlooked. The comfort of friendship, the warmth of a bonfire, the merriments of inebriation, and even the excitement of revelry are sometimes taken for granted.
Focusing on the energy with an aggressive approach to color, Natalya Laskis’s paintings are filled with simplicity. Her manipulation of perspective through the brush strokes carries the viewer into the gesture of the artist’s impulsiveness.Â
Natalya Laskis graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland and New World School of the Arts, Miami, Florida. Her work has been included in group shows at the Fredric Snitzer Gallery Miami, FL and The Fireplace Project, East Hampton, NY among others.
