Florida Grand Opera will open its 67th anniversary season on Saturday evening, November 17th, 2007, with a new production of Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte, establishing a new Opening Night Gala tradition for the Company. After the curtain descends on the final act of Così, Gala guests will gather in an elegant setting on the Lynn Wolfson Stage at Carnival Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House for a magical evening of gourmet dining, vintage champagne and dancing.
The Opening Night Gala celebrates the fusion of high fashion and grand opera and the continuing relationship between these two worlds. Many of the world’s leading couturiers, among them, Yves St. Laurent, John Galliano, Gianni Versace, and Christian Lacroix, have designed sets and costumes for the opera, ballet and theater. This season, sets and costumes for The Pearl Fishers have been designed by British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes.
In recognition of these important artistic collaborations, the Gala will showcase the works of five locally-celebrated, leading fashion designers, each of whom has been invited to create an original evening gown inspired by one of the season’s five productions. The five Miami fashion designers participating include Julian Chang, Mayda Cisneros, Ivonne de la Vega, Victoria Lopez Castro and Silvia Tcherassi.
