Flamenco Festival Miami 2018. Arsht Center’s Stages Are Heating Up!

Miami’s hottest flamenco event of the year returns to the Arsht Center’s stage for four electrifying nights. Mark your calendars, you don’t want to miss these performances.

Ballet Nacional de España (BNE), under the direction of Antonio Najarro, is the greatest exponent of Spanish dance, showcasing all of Spain’s dance styles on the most important stages in the world, through very different shows ranging from classic to the avant-garde, as in “Suite Sevilla”. Its director takes on new choreographic projects featuring young choreographers with very different personalities and dance aesthetics with the main aim of propagating and preserving Spanish dance and reaching the widest possible audience.

The Ballet has evolved in accordance with the new times and has known how to preserve its interest in all styles of Spanish dance, performing choreographies such as those of Escuela Bolera, flamenco and stylized Spanish dance. On the other hand, it has combined tradition and modernity, not forgetting main aspects as training and performing new projects.

Making its triumphant return to Miami in celebration of its 40th anniversary season, the Ballet Nacional de España has been internationally acclaimed by audience and critics, obtaining various awards, such as Critics´ Prize for the Best Foreign Show during the 1988 season at the New York Metropolitan, the Japanese Critics´ Prize in 1991, the Critics´ Prize for the Best Spectacle at the Bellas Artes Theatre in Mexico City in 1994, a prize awarded by the Spanish newspaper, El País for “Poeta”, in 1999, and the Critics’ Prize as well as the Prize awarded by the audience at the VI Festival de Flamenco de Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), in 2002, for the choreography of “Fuenteovejuna” by Antonio Gades.

This all-star show featuring some of the leading voices in Spain today, is a virtuosic display ranging from the gypsy roots of flamenco to modern innovations. The performance will feature Carmen Linares, Marina Heredia and Arcángel. This special evening will include the outstanding dancer Ana Morales, former principal dancer of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia.
