Bess Kargman’s award-winning documentary follows a diverse group of six young dancers, aged 9 to 16 and from the U.S., Colombia and Israel, as they prepare for one of the world’s most prestigious ballet competitions, the Youth America Grand Prix.
They struggle through bloodied feet, near exhaustion and debilitating injuries, for a chance to enter the world of professional ballet, all the while navigating the drama of adolescence. A showcase for awe-inspiring talent, tenacity and passion, First Position paints a thrilling moving portraits of the most gifted young ballet stars of tomorrow.
