June 10th, 2006The Miami Beach Botanical Garden and the Center for Emerging Art will unveil Avant Garden: An African-American Slave Garden on Saturday, June 10th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach. Free and open to the public, there will be a performance of West African drumming by Will Brown and Djembes N Jazz. The Avant Garden, planted in February, exhibits an assortment of herbs, medicinal plants and vegetables that historically were planted by slaves from Africa and the Caribbean for their own use while they worked on plantations.
